Nearly every state's LLC act commands you to appoint a registered agent. Pennsylvania's does not, and that single difference reshapes the whole question. What the Commonwealth demands is a registered office. The Registered Office Rule (15 Pa.C.S. § 8825)

Section 8825 requires each LLC to keep a registered office in Pennsylvania continuously, an office that "may, but need not, be the same as its place of business." Two features of the rule matter in practice. The address has to be stated with a street and number, and Department of State forms will only take an actual street or rural route address, never a bare PO box, unless a CROP is named in its place. And the office exists for one purpose: it is where lawsuits, subpoenas, and official notices get delivered against your company.

Using Your Own Address

Perfectly allowed. A Pennsylvania LLC can point the registered office at its shop, its warehouse, or its owner's house, since the statute expressly permits an office separate from the place of business. What you accept in exchange is exposure: the address becomes a permanent, searchable entry in state records, and whoever is at that address during the day becomes the de facto recipient of legal papers. For owners who work from home, that usually means a home address in the database and process servers at the front door.

The CROP Alternative (15 Pa.C.S. § 109)

Section 109 created the Commercial Registered Office Provider, a business the state recognizes to be named in lieu of a registered office address. Contract with one and your certificate lists the provider, not a street address of yours.
